Utility patent drawings
Plan mechanical figures for U.S. utility patent applications. Review views, part numbers, and the scope of InventLM’s template-based drawing demo.

This page uses “utility patent” in the U.S. sense: a patent directed to an invention's functional subject matter. It is not the same category as a Chinese utility model. Mechanical figures can explain how components are arranged and how the structure works.
Numbered figures and mechanical parts
An overall view can introduce the structure. Additional views can show holes, fittings, or interfaces hidden in that view. Reference numerals help a reader locate parts in the written description.
For the InventLM assembly example, the base, support, and pin remain separate components. The sheet includes an exploded view to show their relationship. See the mechanical drawing examples.
Choose views around the disclosure
Use a top or side view when it reveals a feature the overall view hides. Use a section when the internal arrangement matters. A real application may need more than the automatic views in a template.
The current demo produces isometric, front, top, and right views. The assembly also includes an exploded view. Section views, custom view selection, and free-form modeling are outside the current public demo.
How figure numbers follow the description
Check both directions: each part discussed in the text should be identifiable in the figures when needed, and each numeral on a figure should have the intended meaning in the text. Review labels that overlap edges or disappear in a particular view.
Our template assigns reference numerals automatically. Browser-based movement or renumbering is not yet available. SVG output can be taken into compatible vector-editing software for further work.
Flowcharts and block diagrams
Some inventions also need flowcharts or block diagrams. The current release focuses on mechanical geometry and does not generate these diagram types.
Prepare a draft for review
Try a structure that matches one of the six supported templates. Adjust the exposed dimensions, inspect the geometry, and export the sheet. Review it with the drawing checklist and the USPTO utility application guide.
